Revisiting An Old Concept

It’s time to kick start my writing and blog again so I thought I would share with you something that I have been doing recently.

As an artist or a creative you start to reach a point where you feel you don’t improve or you’re not good enough. It’s an extremely easy trap to fall in to and so many of us do.

It’s easy to forget how far we have come since we started out and it can cloud our vision of what we’re doing well as many of us tend to focus on the negative rather than the positives in our work. After all, we are our own worst critic.

Recently I happened to scroll through my old images on my Flickr account. I was so embarrassed to even look at them. But then an idea came to me. I was so embarrassed by them so why not re do them? I was having a bit of a creative lapse anyway so I thought why not give it a go?

The difference in the images to me was astounding. I hadn’t realised that both my photography and editing technique had improved so much. In that moment I felt proud and actually quite inspired. It was a wonderful feeling.

So a little bit of advice if you’re feeling a little down about your work. Take a look at your old work, revisit it and give it another shot with your new knowledge. You may be pleasantly surprised.
